Analytical Geometry Part 1
Gr 11

The Grade 11 Analytical Geometry Part 1 module introduces learners to the fundamental coordinate-geometry techniques used to describe and analyse geometric relationships on the Cartesian plane. This chapter strengthens algebraic reasoning while developing the ability to interpret diagrams and solve geometric problems using equations.

Learners revise the basics of the coordinate plane before progressing to essential concepts such as calculating the distance between two points, finding the midpoint of a line segment, and determining the gradient (slope) of a line. The lessons also explore the relationship between gradients and the orientation of lines, including conditions for parallel and perpendicular lines. Each concept is reinforced with clear, step-by-step examples that demonstrate how algebra and geometry work together to solve problems.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to apply distance, midpoint, and gradient formulas confidently, analyse geometric relationships using coordinates, and solve a wide range of problems involving straight-line geometry—laying a strong foundation for further analytical geometry work in Grade 11 and the more advanced concepts introduced in Grade 12.
