Trigonometry 2D
Gr 11

The Grade 11 Trigonometry (2D) module extends learners’ understanding of trigonometric ratios beyond right-angled triangles and introduces techniques for solving a wider variety of two-dimensional geometric problems. This chapter builds on the basics learned in Grade 10 and prepares students for the more advanced trigonometry and applications encountered in Grade 12.

Learners explore non-right-angled triangles through the Sine Rule and Cosine Rule, applying these formulae to determine unknown sides and angles in triangles that cannot be solved using basic ratios alone. The lessons also cover area calculations using trigonometry, angle relationships in general triangles, and the interpretation of complex geometric diagrams. Real-life applications—such as navigation, surveying, and measurement problems—help learners understand how trigonometry is used in practical contexts.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to solve 2D trigonometric problems accurately using the appropriate rules, interpret diagrams involving non-right-angled triangles, and apply trigonometric methods confidently in both mathematical exercises and real-world situations—laying essential groundwork for Grade 12 trigonometry and analytical geometry.
