Part 2: Straight Line
Gr 10

The Grade 10 Straight Line Functions module introduces learners to the fundamental ideas behind linear relationships and how they are represented algebraically and graphically. This chapter builds a crucial foundation for understanding more advanced functions in Grades 11 and 12.

Learners explore the structure of the straight-line equation y=mx+cy = mx + cy=mx+c, examining how the gradient and y-intercept determine the behaviour and position of a line on the Cartesian plane. The lessons cover calculating gradients, interpreting graphs, identifying parallel and perpendicular lines, and drawing straight-line graphs from equations and tables of values. Students also learn how to analyse real-life contexts using linear models, strengthening both their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to interpret, sketch, and analyse straight-line functions with confidence, understand the effect of changes in gradient and intercept, and apply linear equations effectively to both algebraic and graphical problems—an essential skill set for the study of functions and analytical geometry in the senior grades.
