Word Problems
Gr 11

The Grade 11 Word Problems module strengthens learners’ ability to translate real-life situations into mathematical expressions and equations. This chapter focuses on developing the critical thinking and interpretation skills necessary to understand what a question is asking, choose the correct method, and present solutions clearly and logically.

Learners work with a wide range of contexts, including number relationships, mixtures, motion problems, financial scenarios, geometry-based problems, and rate calculations. The lessons guide students through identifying key information, defining variables, forming equations, and solving them step-by-step. Emphasis is placed on interpreting answers in context, checking for reasonableness, and communicating solutions using correct mathematical language.

By the end of this module, students will be able to approach word problems confidently, convert complex situations into solvable mathematical models, and apply algebraic, geometric, and numerical techniques effectively—preparing them for problem-solving across all Grade 11 and Grade 12 topics.
