Trigonometry: Functions and Graphs
Gr 11

The Grade 11 Trigonometry: Functions and Graphs module expands learners’ understanding of the sine, cosine, and tangent functions by exploring how these graphs behave on the Cartesian plane. This chapter helps students recognise key features of trigonometric graphs and understand how parameter changes affect their shape and position.

Learners examine the standard forms of the trigonometric functions and identify important characteristics such as amplitude, period, phase shift, and vertical shift. The lessons cover sketching the basic sine, cosine, and tangent graphs, interpreting transformations, and analysing how adjustments to coefficients influence the graphs’ stretching, shifting, and reflection. Students also learn to read and interpret trigonometric graphs in context, strengthening their understanding of periodic behaviour and real-life applications.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to sketch trigonometric graphs accurately, describe how parameters affect their form, and interpret the graphs of sine, cosine, and tangent functions with confidence—providing a strong foundation for the more advanced trigonometric analysis required in Grade 12.
