Quadratic Equations
Gr 11

The Grade 11 Quadratic Equations module builds on earlier algebraic work and introduces learners to systematic methods for solving second-degree equations. This chapter deepens algebraic understanding and forms a crucial bridge to advanced functions and calculus in the senior grades.

Learners explore a range of techniques used to solve quadratic equations, including factorisation, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. The lessons focus on recognising which method is appropriate, rearranging equations into standard form, and interpreting solutions in relation to the graph of a parabola. Students also work with equations that have no real solutions, linking their understanding to the discriminant and the nature of roots. Real-life and word-problem applications help learners develop strong problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to solve quadratic equations accurately using multiple methods, interpret solutions both algebraically and graphically, and apply quadratic techniques confidently across a wide range of mathematical contexts—preparing them for Grade 12 algebra and advanced functions.
