Statistics
Gr 12

The Grade 12 Statistics module deepens learners’ ability to analyse and interpret data by introducing advanced statistical measures and real-world applications. This chapter focuses on understanding data distributions, comparing datasets meaningfully, and drawing well-reasoned conclusions using appropriate statistical tools.

Learners revise key Grade 11 concepts before extending their knowledge to include standard deviation, variance, and the normal distribution. The lessons cover calculating and interpreting measures of central tendency and dispersion, identifying outliers, and understanding how data clusters around the mean. Students also learn how to work with standard scores (z-scores), use tables to determine probabilities in a normal distribution, and evaluate data in context. Emphasis is placed on interpreting results rigorously and avoiding common misinterpretations of statistical information.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to summarise and compare datasets effectively, analyse normally distributed data, and apply statistical reasoning to real-life and examination problems—equipping them with essential analytical skills for advanced mathematics, the sciences, economics, and data-driven fields.
