Functions
Part 5: Exponential
Gr 10

The Grade 10 Exponential Functions module introduces learners to functions that grow or decay at a constant percentage rate. This chapter helps students recognise exponential behaviour, understand its characteristics, and interpret real-life contexts where exponential models naturally occur.

Learners explore the standard form of the exponential function, y=abxy = ab^{x}y=abx, and examine how the values of aaa and bbb affect the graph’s shape, vertical shift, and growth or decay direction. The lessons cover identifying exponential growth and decay, determining intercepts, analysing the horizontal asymptote, and sketching exponential graphs accurately using key points. Students also learn to compare exponential functions and understand how changes in parameters influence the steepness and direction of the curve.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to interpret and sketch exponential graphs confidently, identify growth versus decay, and use exponential functions effectively to solve mathematical and real-world problems—preparing them for more advanced function analysis in Grades 11 and 12.
